Abstract
This paper discusses an application of Distinct Element Method (DEM) for collision response analysis of flexible structure, which has long and slender shape such as wire-rope, by using cylinder rigid body element. As new analysis, introduce of connected spring was suggested, which express small stiffness of flexible structure, in addition to contact force between cylinder element and spherical element. And then, suggested method is verified by fundamental study, i.e., static deformation of soft beam and frequency of strings. Finally, Applicability for simulation of experiment of falling rock protection net, which is semi-large scale size of the original and subjected collision of the weight.
