Abstract
This paper proposes an evaluation method for performance of automated inspection equipment for detecting concrete cracks and exfoliation. For evaluation of performance of new equipment, quantitative indices are more beneficial than to determine whether it can be applied to the inspection or not, since it becomes possible performance comparison of the testing equipments. To construct the evaluation criteria, literature survey was carried out for the domestic and foreign technical standards such as guidelines and maintenance of visual inspection for concrete bridge and tunnel. As specific evaluation indices, detection rates and the false positive rate when developed equipment is applied to the inspection and the work efficiency of the equipment are introduced. For development of new inspection equipment to satisfy explicit required specification, an reliable inspection system is expected to be established by cooperative works of the users and manufacturers.
