Abstract
Although the compact city concept is the promising strategy aimed to improve sustainability of urban developments, most of the local civil servant planners do not admit this fact. In this study it was tried to change their attitudes by giving one-shot lecture (OL) that provided subjective information about compact city. Analysis were performed in order to investigate 1) present state of attitudes, 2) change of attitudes, 3) factors that influence on attitude formation and 4) obstacles to realize compact city. Results showed that 1) OL is effective as a tool to rise awareness, 2) beside OL, knowledge and related experiences are also important factors for attitude formation, 3) institutional problems are not essential and 4) most of obstacles could be overcome by communication and learning.
