Abstract
Japan faces globalization. In order to tackle the issue, to improve Japanese students' English skills, aside from an English language course in school, is required. Thus, the objective of this study is to examine how to organize a specialized course in English for students who are third grade in KOSEN (18 years old) and who belong to the department of civil engineering, and to evaluate its effectiveness based on survey results. The results showed that teaching a specialized course in English continuously can decrease the number of students who has difficulty with English. Additionally, utilizing an English video, related to the subject, with the instructor supplying additional explanation in Japanese can improve students' understanding. In conclusion, when it comes to teach a specialized course in English, using materials such as examinations and videos is an effective way to overcome students' weakness.
