Abstract
A series of numerical experiments were carried out to estimate Tsunami prevention effects in Tsunami vulnerable coast, due to the embankment-structures. The objective of the study area is the Shonan coast and Kamakura city, which is an example of Tsunami vulnerable coastal area. The house damage distribution is estimated based on the wooden house ratio in the simulation area. In 18 experimental cases (6 for incident water level and 3 for bathymetry chart), prevention effect is remarkable for the largest-ever level of incident water elevation. However, the prevention effect is limited for tremendously high incident wave level. The more effective forms of the embankment-structure are examined.
