Abstract
A method for estimating the tsunami inundation depth h at the front of a rectangular RC building with arbitrary connection space and aperture, in which incident tsunami inundation depth hi and velocity ui are used, is developed for the case that tsunami is incident on a right angle to the building. The method is based on the momentum theory and introduces, for its generalization, a newly defined coefficient k which should be called “coefficient of control domain width” or “velocity coefficient.” The validity of the method is examined through comparisons between the estimated and experimental values of the inundation depth, and it is confirmed that the method is useful although there is still room for improvement. Based on steady flow experiments, boundary condition of generation of reflected bore and hydraulic jump at the front of building, equivalent to that of application of the method, is also examind.
