Abstract
This paper presents an experimental approach to examine the driftwood capturing effect of the anti-flood pond. The laboratory flume experiments were conducted by varying the anti-flood pond shape and the groyne position. First, driftwood models are supplied to the water flow and we investigated the driftwood trapping probability in anti-flood pond. The results indicated that the trapping probability is highly influenced by the anti-flood pond shape and the groyne position. Then, we measured the flow velocity by PIV and the driftwood convection velocity by PTV. These techniques enabled us to evaluate the followability of driftwood to the water flow.
