Abstract

This paper describes a study on the limit state 2 of steel girders subjected to shear force, as defined in the Specifications for highway bridges. In this study, shear loading tests of steel girders were first conducted, and the state that can be treated as the limit state 2 were located on the obtained load-response curves. Next, the results obtained by parametric analysis based on the proposed mechanical model were examined, and a strength evaluation equation for the state that can be treated as limit state 2 was presented. Comparison with the parametric analysis confirms that the proposed strength evaluation equation can accurately estimate the strength with an error of ±6%.
