Most studies on the impact of the road network structure on performance assume regular networks such as lattice or radial networks, or networks with known degree distributions and assortativity, etc., which do not adequately represent the actual urban road network. Therefore, this study proposes a general road net-work generation model that takes into account the characteristics of real urban road networks. Using road network data from 141 cities in Japan, clustering by network structure indices was performed, and a road network generation model was constructed using the optimal number of nodes and links for each cluster as input parameters. Furthermore, a method for hierarchising the generated road network was proposed, and by verifying the properties of the generated road network based on the travel time distribution between pairs of locations, it was confirmed that making the top-ranked roads ring-shaped and reducing the proportion of road extension on the low-ranked roads lead to improved transport functions.
