The participation of residents is essential for the “Kawamachidukuri”, which aims for the integrated development of rivers and their surrounding areas, to take root in the community. The recall of river-related memories contributes to the participation of residents in the “Kawamachidukuri”, and the visual links from their living area to the river-town node are considered to have an important role in the recall of memories. In this study, open spaces at the river-town node and the visual links at the river-town node were examined for their influence on the recall of river-related memories. The results showed that the visual links to the river-town node were stronger at the nodes with open space than at the nodes without open space and that the stronger the visual links to the node, the more river-related memories were recalled.
