Abstract

In October 2020, Mr. Yoshihide Suga, Prime Minister of Japan, announced a goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, followed by additional announcement by the Government of Japan on a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 46% from FY2013 in 2030. To reduce greenhouse gases in the sector of civil engineering and building, especially in the construction phase, the authors firstly aim to research and organize information on low-carbon technologies and solutions in Japanese construction-related firms, and to contribute to policy-making in the relevant fields based on the research. Specifically, this paper examined required policies including unified evaluation on the emissions, technical standards on relevant fields, life cycle assessment (LCA), and supportive procurement policy.
