EFFECT OF COMBINED MEASURE OF GROINS AND NOURISHMENT AGAINST BEACH EROSION ON OHMI-SHIRAHAMA BEACH IN LAKE BIWA

Abstract

 Measures against erosion of Ohmi-shirahama Beach located west of the Kamogawa River flowing into northern Lake Biwa were investigated using the contour-line-change model. On the basis of the plan, two groins were newly constructed as well as the beach nourishment of 800 m³ of sand. Monitoring results after the construction showed that the predicted and measured results were in good agreement. The stabilization method of the lakeshore change was confirmed, which was caused by decrease in sand supply from rivers.
