Abstract
Source modeling method of intra-plate earthquakes in the subducting oceanic plate has not been established for the design method of port and harbour facilities. In this paper, we proposed a method to construct a source model for the intra-plate earthquake of Mw7.3 occurring below the Tokyo capital region and the earthquake below Aki-Nada sea. The proposed source modeling method applies the following procedure; (1)setting seismic moment for scenario earthquake, (2)calculating total area of asperities, (3)calculating short period level, (4)setting other parameters based on the technical standards, (5)applying the pseudo point source model, (6)setting depth of upper edge of the fault at the depth of plate boundary, and (7)verifying the source parameters using the predicted or observed seismic intensity distribution.
The validity of the proposed source model of the intra-plate earthquake of Mw7.3 below the Tokyo capital region was verified in view of the seismic intensity published by the cabinet office, government of Japan. The validity of the proposed source model of the intra-plate earthquake below Aki-Nada sea was also verified in view of the seismic intensity observed during the 1905 and 1857 Geiyo earthquake.
