Abstract
Japanese government has been pursuing the international strategic port policy which aims to keep/expand the service level of major container route shipping from/to North America and Europe. Whether this policy target will be accomplished or not is affected by the surrounding countries' situation in East Asia.
Based on the above mentioned background, this research estimated the future origin-destination volume of world container flow in the mid- and long-term. It was revealed that the volume of Southeast Asia and South Asia route will reach the same level of that of major route and that the volume between Southeast Asia and North America will greatly increase. Consideration about the port policy was discussed from this view point.
