Road managers must effectively perform operation and maintenance under stringent conditions that include shrinking budgets and a shortage of engineers. In this study, an AI-based pavement inspection and diagnosis system that we had previously developed was applied to a wide range of roads in Hokkaido, and the degree and causes of cracking were investigated. As a result, points for improvement in the system were discovered for cases where the cause of cracking was difficult to determine, and the characteristics of pavement cracking in Hokkaido were identified. Furthermore, assuming maintenance and repair methods corresponding to the degree and causes of cracking, maintenance and repair costs were estimated for the surveyed roads. The results show that this method allows for comparison between regions at the network level and between roads at the project level in terms of the required maintenance and repair costs.
