The Subcommittee on Pavement Materials of the Committee on Pavement Engineering of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers conducted CBR testing and resilient modulus testing using sandy soil as simultaneous tests to study the strength and deformation characteristics of subgrade soils. The results showed that not only the moisture ratio but also the dry density had a significant effect on CBR, since its variation at the same dry density was great. Resilient modulus was also found to be greatly affected by dry density and moisture ratio as in the case of CBR. The relationship between CBR and elastic modulus was examined in domestic and foreign studies, including the results of this study, and it was found that the elastic modulus was widely distributed within the regression line of 5×CBR to 20×CBR for the same CBR.
