Abstract

 80% of Hanshin Expressway consists of viaducts, and Wangan Route has lots of steel deck structures. For the base layer of pavement on a steel deck, a goose asphalt mixture has been conventionally used because it has high followability of steel deck deflection, and well workability by pouring to fill into uneven parts on the deck. In recent years, road pavement companies have developed new goose asphalts that are more durable and lower odor than conventional goose asphalt mixtures, and put them into practical use. On the other hand, there are no performance-defined evaluation standards for the highly durable goose asphalt mixture of the base layer mixture on a steel deck in Hanshin Expressway. In this paper, proposed performance regulations for this new asphalt mixtures are reported by evaluating the results of highly durable goose asphalt mixtures and a conventional mixture in various performance tests.
