Abstract
The Royal Government of Cambodia has set in its global policy the fundamental and ultimate objective for the nation. This objective is the poverty reduction. How to improve the living conditions of the poor population is becoming a crucial challenge during the years to come. Despite all the natural resources and cultural heritage potentials, Siem Reap province is still one of the poorest in the country. The economic growth generated by increasing pace of the development of tourism sector has yet to prove that the profits have been equitably redistributed to all population disregarding their social and economic levels. Upon this perspective a new strategy of development should be sought out and new approaches to the problem be designed for.
The idea of GREEN BELT which is a sub-urban agricultural area has been thought off and finally introduced as one of the major components of the development in the “The Study on Integrated Master Plan for Sustainable Development of Siem Reap-Angkor Town in the Kingdom of Cambodia”.
