Abstract
The characteristics of a soil layer are not usually uniform, and uneven settlement was often observed in a clay stratum. In case of reclamation above the clay stratum, there is a possibility that the uneven settlement in the clay stratum affect the characteristics of the sand layer. Especially, the stress state of the ground might be affected. In this research, the stress distribution of the ground above the clay layer with a settlement were investigated by a series of centrifuge model test. As a result, the non-uniform stress distribution in the ground due to the settlement is observed. This non-uniform distribution of the stress correspond to the ±50% level of the variation in observed in-situ SPT N value.
