Abstract
The Great East Japan Earthquake of M9.0 hit the Tohoku area on March 11, 2011. The huge earthquake followed by tsunami caused tremendous casualties and damage of structures across the Tohoku and Kanto areas.
JSCE committee on hybrid structures dispatched the 1st survey subcommittee to Tohoku area, Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefecture.
This survey of hybrid structures in areas not affected by the tsunami confirmed that serious damages in hybrid structures were not seen and seismic retrofit work to prevent the collapse of concrete structures had been effective.
This report has described the problems and possibilities of hybrid structures against a huge earthquake and tsunami which will happen in the future.
