Abstract

A new seismic control system for the suspension bridge that supports the weight of the floor beam of superstructure by slide bearings, owes the restoring force by cables and reduces the inertia force by seismic dampers is proposed. Adapting this system, the seismic energy inputted to the bridge is transformed to potential energy and absorbed as dissipated energy. Here, as the hysteresis of slide bearings and seismic dampers is rigid-plastic type, it makes the structure supported by this system long period in large displacement. Then, adapting this system to the suspension bridge, the floor stringer is isolated from the stiffened truss girder. And, the characteristic of response period and seismic energy are investigated based on the non-liner time history analysis. As a result, the performance of this system is confirmed to be favorable.
