Abstract
Water supply facilities are often constructed on the irregular-shaped soil in the mountainous area or soft soil due to the conditions of hydrology and geography. There are many points which are not clear regarding those influences on the RC(Reinfoced-Concrete) tanks which come from the difference of soil surfaces.
This research examined the influences of the differences of hardness of soil surface on the earthquake behavior of RC tanks by case studies using 2-D dynamic finite element analysis. As a result of this research, it became clear that if the difference of hardness between surrounding soil and RC tanks become remarkable, the relative shear hardness of the RC tanks and the response of surrounding soil become bigger. In an addition, the sectional force of RC tanks becomes bigger on hard soil and the relative displacement of the RC tanks becomes bigger on soft soil and because of the influences which come from difference of the hardness between RC tanks and surrounding soil.
