Abstract

For repairing a steel girder end with corrosion, an applicability of patch plate repair by welding was investigated. A series of compressive experiment and analysis was carried out on cruciform column specimens with thickness reduction modeling the corroded steel girder end. The influence of residual stress by welding of patch plate on the compressive behavior of repaired specimen was elucidated. While the effect of the patch plate repair by welding was confirmed, possibilities of more effective sizing and placement conditions on the patch plate than the conditions used in the experiment was shown. A parametric simulation was carried out and the effective conditions of the patch plate were examined. In this study, the thickness of the web and stiffeners reduced by 50 % in the region of 10 % of the column height from the lower flange. The patch plates of which the thickness was 1.5 times larger than the reduced thickness of members were attached on the web and stiffeners from one sides of the members. Then, the load-carrying capacity of the repaired specimen was recovered to the same level as the intact specimen.
