The authors have been conducting research on damage evaluation of rubber bearings using the acoustic emission (AE) method which is one of the non-destructive testing. Furthermore, a test to confirm the detection accuracy of elastic waves propagating inside a rubber test piece was conducted and reported.
In this paper, steel plates were placed above and below a steel rod inserted into the rubber test piece that simulated the structure of the rubber bearings. The effect of steel plates on the detection accuracy of the elastic waves propagating inside rubber due to peeling of the steel rod was confirmed. In addition, three-dimensional location analysis was performed.
From the results, the difference between the peeling location and the estimated location was confirmed. This study showed that the AE phenomenon could be detected even when the steel plate was placed inside the rubber test piece, but location accuracy was decreased.
