PROTECTION OF DAMAGED ROOFS OF HOUSES BY USING BLUE SHEETS AFTER 2018 OSAKA-HOKUBU EARTHQUAKE

Abstract

 Due to the earthquake in Osaka on June 18, 2018, many houses have damage on their roof. After the earthquake, many roofs are temporary restored quickly using blue sheets (tarps). In this research, we examined the characteristics of the blue tarps setting condition and pointed out the problems. As a survey, we examined the roof of about 70 houses in August, September and October, 2018. As a result, wide variety in the methods of stabilizing the sheets is observed. For example, the black color sand bags and ropes which have higher durability were used in only about 30% of all cases. It indicates the absence of the established appropriate procedure for the stabilization of the sheets.
