Abstract
In this study, semi-structured interviews with eight nurses were conducted, and the contents were analyzed to clarify under which perception nurses who were involved with children on short-term hospitalization and their families were offering the nursing care. The results showed that the nursing care provided by the nurses could be divided into five categories, and which were "Support to offer quick treatment," "Offering information which would be useful at home," "Support toward mothers," "Support for the family member in bringing their full capability" and "Close relationship with the child," and the following points were clear. (1) Nurses offered adequate nursing care upon understanding that "Mothers were at shock and under stress" and "Children had strong fear but were highly adaptable," and they were obliged to enhance the contents of their nursing care. (2) Nurses felt that nursing the child on short-term hospitalization was "less fulfilling," but on the other hand, they offered the nursing care with awareness on the nurses' role, and they need to make implication out of it. (3) It is necessary to systematize the nursing care for children on short-term hospitalization, to be able to offer highly meaningful nursing care to every child and family.
