Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify (1) the characteristic injury-prevention behaviors of mothers with one-year-old children, (2) the relationship between current injury-prevention behaviors and past injury or alarming experiences, and (3) the relationship between current injury-prevention behaviors and the prevention of recurrences. We asked 250 mothers who were nurturing one-year-old children. As a results, dropping, scalding, pinching accidents, and traffic accidents, mothers more than 80% carried out an injury-prevention behavior. But mothers who carried out an accident-prevention behavior of falling, collision, the traumatic accident, and drawing were less than 50%. In 8 out of 10 items surveyed for past experiences, the proportion of alarming experiences was higher than that of injury experiences. There were items in which the rate of carrying out current injury-prevention behaviors was significantly lower among mothers who answered that they 'had an injury or alarming experience in the past' in comparison to mothers who answered that they 'had no injury or alarming experiences', thus suggesting that past experience may not be effectively associated with the carrying out of current injury-prevention behaviors.
