A longitudinal web survey was conducted twice, 1 month apart, on 67 parents of children with severe motor and intellectual disabilities living at home, with the aim of identifying factors related to their health status. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals for subjective health status and health status rating scale subscale scores were calculated using generalized estimating equation models. Subjective health status was associated with schedule changes, confidence in health, managing the health status “having time for oneself”, and use of respite care. The health status rating scale item “difficulty in relieving fatigue” was associated with the health status management “having time for oneself”, “confidence in health” and “desire for personal leeway and social participation”. Respite care was related to health status, but it was not sufficient to support daily life, as half of the parents reported never using it. It is important to develop a home nursing system that does not require parents to be at home, and building a system of physical management that allows parents to “have time for themselves” is an important challenge.
