Abstract
In order to investigate the effect of element size in finite element calculation on the numerical result of the singularity order of elastic stress, the problem of a rectangular plate including a square inclusion or square hole, the corner point of which has two kinds of stress singularity, are numeri cally analyzed under tensile loading. It was found that for obtaining the singularity order that gives higher severity from the numerical result of stress, very fine size of element mesh of the order of 1:10-9 for the relative size to specimen near the corner point is necessary. There is a possibility that the singularity order obtained from the numerical result of displacement is more accurate compared with the value from the result of stress.
