Abstract
The damage propagation of quasi-isotropic poly-arylate fibre reinforced epoxy laminated compos-ites (ArFRP) subjected to a tensile load were investigated. We attempted to apply numerical simulation using a quasi-3-dimensional model and performed tensile tests of ArFRP and CFRP laminates as a reference. The quasi-3-dimensional model is constructed of shell elements and beam elements which represent the fibre and matrix, respectively. The damage propagation analyses of four-type ArFRP laminates [0/45/-45/90]sym, [0/45/90/-45]sym, [0/90/45/-45]sym and [-45/45/ 0/90]sym were performed and tested. Then, the same analyses of CFRP laminates were performed. Therefore it was found that the quasi-3-dimensional model was effective for the estimation of stress-strain relationships of both the laminates. Some differences of damage propagation between ArFRP and CFRP were also clarified.
