Abstract
In order to put optical cable to practical use, it is needed to assure the reliability of the strength for coated optical fiber. In this paper, a theoretical and experimental study on the mechanical strength of coated optical fiber has been made by the dynamic fatigue test and the static fatigue test. It is clarified that in the dynamic test, the logarithm of the fracture strength is proportional to the logarithm of the strain rate, and in the static test, the logarithm of the fracture time is proportional to the logarithm of the apparent stress.
