Abstract
Regarding the steady increase in suicides among young people in recent years, this paper will report on the trial-and-error efforts being made at the Nagoya City Children and Youth Comprehensive Counseling Center, which is based on support for the development of children and young people, and will also present the factors that lead young people to choose suicide, countermeasures, and challenges.
In the midst of economic recession, changing lifestyles, and diversifying values, we have entered an era where
young people's suicides cannot be prevented by just having experts in youth support deal with the worries, problems, and anxieties about life of young people. For this reason, we have placed emphasis on 'relationships ' over expertise, built rich and diverse connections around young people that go beyond positions, and used the power of a 'network ' to support the suffering of young people. However, we feel our lack of power every day when it comes to young people who choose suicide, which cannot be stopped even with such efforts.
If there is any hope to be found in this, it is for young people to have their own community, 'a place to belong with friends. ' We believe that the power of 'recovery ' that arises within that community will save young people.
'Recovery ' is not something that is given unilaterally by others but occurs through interaction with others. We will also consider how this works.
