Objectives : When considering living donor nephrectomy, while donor safety is the most important objective, low invasiveness and cosmetic appearance should also be considered. We present the results of our initial experience with laparo-endoscopic single site donor nephrectomy (LESS-DN). Methods : Eight living renal transplantation donors underwent the LESS-DN procedure. Operative data for LESS-DN were retrospectively compared to those for standard laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) at our institute. Results : The procedure was technically successful in all 8 patients. Median operative time was 195 minutes, blood loss was 56mL and warm ischemia time was 181seconds. Oral pain medication was used significantly less for LESS-DN than for LDN (p=0.003). Conclusions : LESS-DN has the potential to become a minimally invasive surgery with low invasiveness and cosmetic benefits.
