A review is given with 21 references on heat capacity measurements of nitrogen, carbon monoxide, and monodeuterated methane physically adsorbed on graphite. Phase transitions including melting of the surface sub-monomolecular films are demonstrated and discussed. Many of authors' unpublished results are described.
