Abstract
Hamada Dam Redevelopment and Daini-Hamada Dam are planned at the Hamadagawa River in Shimane Prefecture. In general, sediment storage capacity in a newly built dam is estimated on a base of existing records of sedimentation volume for an actual dam that has similar properties in geological features, vegetation, precipitation etc. However, in the case of these dams, the general estimation method wouldn't have enough accuracy, because the sediment movement in both dams would be largely changed due to the dam redevelopment.
In this report, we have estimated the sediment storage capacities of both dams with good accuracy using a numerical simulation model for dam sedimentation, which has been developed by combining the latest prediction techniques and utilizing the existing records stored in the Hamada dam.
