Abstract
Recently automated dam body deformation measurement by GPS survey is under examination in order to enhance and rationalize the safety management of embankment dam. This paper reports the applications of GPS survey to dam body deformation measurements during the first filling of both rock fill dam and earth dam as well as long term dam body deformation measurements of rock fill dam. Furthermore, relationships between statistically processed data obtained by GPS survey and results obtained by electro-optical distance measurement are analyzed. In conclusion, the applicability of GPS survey in enhancement and rationalization of safety management of embankment dam is discussed.
