Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial effect of commercial and experimental dental cements. Experimental dental cements were made containing 10 and 20% HY agent with a Temporary pack (GC). Additionally, for comparison, we prepared HY-bond temporary cement soft without HY agent. We used Streptococcus and Actinomyces bacteria for this study. Antibacterial effects were indicated in all commercial and experimental dental cements containing HY agent. However, no antibacterial effect was indicated in any commercial or experimental dental cement that did not contain HY agent. These results suggest that dental cements containing HY agent have the effect of the sterilization of bacteria in a cavity and prevention of recurrence of dental caries.
