Abstract

Methacryloyl tyrosine amide, a tyrosine derivative monomer, is superior for tooth adhesiveness, and effective as a component of dentin primer and self-etching primer. We also developed a new hydrophilic one-step adhesive including a water-soluble photosensitizer. As surface modification of a titanium implant, thin apatite coating using the molecular precursor method and immobilization of cell-adhesive proteins using the tresyl chloride-activated method were performed, and better bone formation was achieved. Improvement of soft-tissue attachment with nanosecond-pulsed laser treatment or collagen fiber coating was evaluated. The presence of vertically oriented collagen fibers in soft tissue towards the implant was observed. Soft tissue attachment to a zirconia implant was also investigated. Neither the molecular precursor method nor tresyl chloride-activated method need any large-scale equipment or special technique. Both are simple and economical surface modification methods, and the future development of both methods is expected.
