Abstract
A joint seminar that included an international symposium and several events sponsored by Muroran Institute of Technology in Japan and Chiang Mai University in Thailand was held in Hokkaido in January 2012. The title of the seminar and symposium was "Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Robotics, MIER2012." The prime objectives are to foster young engineers and collaborate on research and education, focusing on the development of science and technology in Asia. The seminar was conducted over ten days and included the symposium, which lasted two days. The seminar program consisted of academic and cultural events, included the following: lectures, presentations, and discussions offered by both universities as part of the international symposium; the exchange of technological information and original ideas; visits to the facilities of local industries and the university's laboratories; hands-on classes; study tours; homestays; and meetings. The students and professors of both universities actively exchanged their ideas and key information in English. This report briefly summarizes the activities of the seminar.
