Abstract
Objective : Harvesting of the left-side kidney in laparoscopic living donor nephrectomy (LDN) is often selected because the right renal vein is shorter than that on the left. We conducted a comparative review of right versus left living donor nephrectomy.
Materials and Methods : Retroperitoneoscopic LDN was performed in 98 consecutive patients in our institution between January 2003 and June 2014. Right LDN was performed in 26 (26.5%) of the 98 patients. We examined the operative time, warm ischemic time (WIT), and total ischemic time (TIT).
Results : The median operative time was 257.5 (182-506) min for the left versus 256 (196-374) min for the right, WIT was 2.7±0.7 and 3.7±1.2min(p<0.01), and TIT was 134±44 and 108±29min (p<0.01), respectively. WIT on right LDN was significantly longer than on left LDN ; however, TIT was reversed.
Conclusion : Left and right LDN revealed similar surgical results.
