Abstract

Some patients with otitis media probably have endolymphatic hydrops, because it has been confirmed pathologically that otitis media is sometimes accompanied by endolymphatic hydrops.
In this study, treatment with steroid, Isosorbide (hyperosmotic diuretic) and antibiotics was used for patients with otitis media who seemed to have endolymphatic hydrops on the basis of clinical symptoms of inner ear disturbances and positive glycerol test.
This combined treatment was significantly more effective than in the controls. It is concluded that decompression treatment should be tried in patients with otitis media and endolymphatic hydrops.
