Abstract
This paper deals with drying shrinkages properties of concretes with surface finishes. Specimens with 30cm×30cm in cross section and with 18cm in thickness in which moisture evaporations were allowed only from the area of 30cm×30cm, were prepared. The moisture profiles and drying shrinkage distributions in the specimens were measured. Also, unrestrained shrinkage strains and moisture changes of sliced specimens with 2cm in thickness were measured. According to the measured values of the wall and sliced specimens, the influences of surface finishes on the drying shrinkages induced internal restrained strains were evaluated. The test results showed that the surface finishes strongly affected the internal restrained strains of concrete specimens and a close relationship was obtained between the strains and the moisture evaporation from the glass cup with surface finishes.
