Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the value of magnifying endoscopy with narrow band imaging (MENBI) in mass screening with endoscopic examination of the upper digestive tract.
Method: From March 2009 to December 2009, 194 cases undergoing endoscopic examination using MENBI were included into the study. The ratios of diagnosing gastric epithelial tumors and biopsies, the examination times and the number of pictures taken were collected.
Results: The ratios of diagnosing gastric epithelial tumors and biopsies, the examination times and the number of pictures taken were 2.06%, 11.3%, 12 minutes and 7 seconds and 83.7 images, respectively. Four cases of gastric epithelial tumor were found, among which 1 was adenoma, 2 were early gastric cancers and 1 was advanced gastric cancer.
Conclusion: Further research is needed to clarify whether or not MENBI is useful for mass screening with endoscopic examination of the upper digestive tract.
