Abstract
We describe a case of early gastric cancer that is well delineated by abdominal ultrasonography (AUS) in a 54-year old Japanese male admitted for detailed examination for gastric cancer that was detected by endoscopy at the clinic. The AUS showed a localized depression at the anterior wall. It had a bright echoic area that was suspected to be air. We found a five-layer structure of the gastric wall with a high-frequency probe. And the 3rd layer (submucosal layer) was thickened but maintained the structure. There was no muscle invasion. Endoscopic examination showed a 20-mm gastric cancer with ulcer. We diagnosed early gastric cancer and performed laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy. The final histological report showed tubular adenocarcinoma, moderately differentiated (tub2), pT1b(SM2), ly1, v0, pDM0, pPM0, pN0, pM0, INFβ, int; pStage IA. He was discharged without complications.
We collected further considerations about early gastric cancer that was well delineated by abdominal ultrasonography.
