The personal dialysis machine (current model) for one patient who had been performing home hemodialysis (HHD) for more than 7 years was discontinued and the parts supply stopped. Therefore, we decided to replace it with a next-generation dialysis machine made by the same manufacturer. However, some parts of the operating procedures differed from those of the current machine, and we needed to retrain the patient on the operating procedures. However, since our hospital has become a core hospital for new coronavirus infection, it became difficult to provide education using the next-generation device, so we conducted a home study using videos as a solution and evaluated the results. As a result, the practical test was passed without major problems through home study using video clips. After the replacement with the next-generation device, no problems related to the patient's technique were reported. Patients appreciated the fact that they did not need frequent visits to the hospital or hospitalization. This evaluation suggests that the introduction of video-based home study is useful and can be a useful tool to improve the education of HHD patients. In the future, it may lead to the enhancement of the content and shortening of the educational period for self-puncture at the time of introduction of HHD.
