FUNDAMENTAL STUDY OF PLANT FACTORIES

Abstract

Two basic conditions are indispensable to the creation of a plant factory : to standardize the relation between environmental conditions and plant growth and to promote plant growth by environmental control. In the present study, lettuce and sweet pepper were used as samples and the relations between light, temperature and CO₂ concentration and growth indices, such as photosynthesis and plant weight, were quantified in detail. In addition, the control of these environmental conditions achieved substantial growth promotion effects on the sample crops. Based on the data thus obtained, we conducted researches to realize plant factories, and technical problems concerning these factories were clarified.
