Abstract
In introducing a scheme for donor compensation for damages, etc., it is necessary to clearly identify the scope of coverage and the standards for compensation that will encourage prospective donors to make the decision with a sense of security. In introducing compensation, it should be provided strictly to donors and only from the national government. Deploying compensation as incentive for increasing the number of donor organs is not desirable in view of the current state of organ transplant in Japan. In order to assure the health and safety of living organ donors, it is essential to build a network for donor protection and at the same time laws and regulations on living organ transplant and to resolve problems of guaranteeing the donor's free will and self-motivation in organ donation.
