Abstract

Intergenerational home-sharing is one of the approaches to realize a new symbiotic society worldwide, and “Kyoto Solidaire” is a leading program in Japan. The purpose of this study is to clarify how the relationship is transformed by analyzing the narratives of the parties involved in the households that provide dementia care while participating in the program called “Kyoto Solidaire”. As a result, the student intervened in situations such as nighttime conflicts between a caregiver and a person with dementia to increase intimacy, while maintaining a distance that was not too close to each other. The student and the person with dementia developed a natural relationship in the living space. By capturing these relationships in each of the three spheres of family functioning (caring, intimate, and living sphere), we demonstrated the transformation of the relationships between the parties within the household, and further revealed that the student could act as a non-invasive and important presence for the care sphere.
