In Japan, people living with HIV due to contaminated blood products have conducted research on their own living conditions. These studies were carried out as participatory research in collaboration with academic researchers. This approach sought to balance scientific rigor with the experiential knowledge of those directly affected. The research emphasized not only the negative impacts of health damage but also the positive aspects, such as the strength and dignity with which the victims continue to live. The insights and experiences gained from this work are valuable not only for others facing health challenges, but also for researchers.
