Abstract

This study will examine the translating service business by document category, i.e., (1) publications, (2) videos and films, (3) dramas, and (4) other documents including commercial, scientific and government documents, from the following three aspects:.

(a) How much is paid to translators?

(b) How are translation fees determined?

(c) How do translators make a living?

(a) While many books and magazine articles discuss translation skills and techniques, translation fees are rarely addressed. At present, how much are translators earning for different types of translation?

(b) What factors, if any, determine the translation fees paid to translators?

(c) Are translators able to make a living with the current level of fees? Is there any difference between past and present practices in this regard?
